We’re thrilled to have officially re-launched Operation Clean Sweep NZ at the Plastics New Zealand Conference last week! The refreshed programme has been designed to enhance value for participants, providing ongoing support to maintain best practice, and help companies stay ahead of tightening environmental regulations.

Industry-specific pollution regulations have already been implemented in Europe, and plastic pellet loss is a key topic in negotiations for the Global Plastics Treaty. Here in Aotearoa, strengthening your site’s stormwater and plastic handling practices is not just good for the environment, it also demonstrates leadership, protects your team (slips and trips be gone!), and helps safeguard the reputation of the broader plastics industry.

OCS ImageSo, what’s new?

Three-Year Audit Cycle – Companies now move into a rolling cycle with a full third-party audit every three years, supported by self-assessments in the interim years.

Fee Structure – A tiered fee model ensures the programme can remain sustainable while continuing to provide high-quality support and tools.

New Resources – We’ve developed new resources and updated guidance material to support site teams and promote programme engagement.

Partner Benefits – Engaged companies can benefit from partner’s offers!

We’ve already had interest from companies wanting to schedule audits and re-audits under the new model, and we’ll be in touch with all currently certified sites this week to explain what these changes mean for you in 2025.

Our website can be explored at operationcleansweep.org.nz. Here, you’ll find everything you need to understand the new structure, access the updated Guide, and explore how to get involved.

Operation Clean Sweep NZ remains a vital part of our industry’s environmental response - thank you to all who are helping reduce plastic loss into the environment, one pellet at a time.
