PVC Pipe & Green Star
PVC Minimisation
The New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC) has introduced credits for PVC Minimisation under its Green Star environmental building rating system. New Zealand and Australia are the only countries in the world to take this approach. PIPA is concerned that this clause is not based on a sound analysis of the environmental performance of PVC pipe against other materials and that it enables the use of less preferable products. More detrimentally it impacts on the over 560 NZers currently employed by the industry in favour of often more expensive imported products.
PIPA continues to submit our concerns about this clause to the NZGBC and the NZ Government. The Australian Green Building Council has initiated a review of their equivalent clause and we hope to see the same initiative taken here.
