A European study of the performance of various pipe systems, respectively pipe materials for municipal sewage systems under special consideration of the ecological range of effects during the service life
A joint Plastics Europe and TEPPFA exercise the Sustainable Municipal Pipes (SMP) project involved analysis of over 1,800 kilometres of CCTV surveys of existing sewer pipes and, as such, represents one of the largest research projects of its type. The results provide powerful evidence to demonstrate that plastics (flexible) sewer pipes offer significant advantages over traditional rigid materials particularly when considering the environmental impact that defective sewers can have in terms of infiltration of ground water into the pipes and the leaking of effluent into the surrounding ground.
A multi-national Independent Consulting Board of sewer and drainage specialists contributed significantly to the study, as well as ensured the objectivity and validity of the study’s findings
