Benchmarking is a useful way to assess a company’s efforts to reduce energy, water and waste. Establishing a baseline measurement of energy and water consumption and waste output allows a company to evaluate the improvements made in operations and equipment over time. A key benchmark indicator is raw material usage - energy and water use per kg of resin processed.
Plastics New Zealand have developed a benchmarking tool that enables plastics manufacturers to input some simple data on energy, water, waste and raw material use and compare their performance against other plastics manufacturers with a similar mix of processes.

With a minimal amount of data and time a company can examine its energy use, water consumption and waste production over time. The tool also enables companies to benchmark their performance against plastics manufacturers in Europe, using data obtained from a similar European programme. Eventually (when enough companies are using the tool) companies will be able to benchmark their performance against similar plastics manufacturers in New Zealand.
Company data is completely secure and confidential, with access limited by a username and password protection.
This benchmarking tool is only available to members of Plastics New Zealand
