PET WATER BOTTLES
Neither DEHA or Bisphenol A are used in the manufacture PET drink bottles. DEHA and Bisphenol A are not by products from the degradation of PET. PET does not contain chlorine and will not form dioxin, PET drink bottles are safe for repeated use.

These statistics form an important factual basis for our liaison with government and forms the basis for the assessment of the Plastic Industry’s obligations under the NZ Packaging Accord. A higher survey return rate means less extrapolation, more accurate figures and a stronger basis for us to support the New Zealand Plastics Industry.

RECYCLING SURVEY
As part of the Plastics Sector Action Plan under the New Zealand Packaging Accord 2004, Plastics New Zealand conducts an annual recycling survey to report progress on the national plastic recycling target of 23% (measured by weight), by 2008.

There are many myths about Plastic Bags. Conventional plastic shopping bags are 100% recyclable. They are a valuable source of energy for the recycling industry. Plastic bags represent less than 0.2% of all waste to landfill, and make up a very small percentage of all litter; international litter statistics consistently report at less than 1%.

PET Water Bottles and Polycarbonate Bottles
Plastics New Zealand is concerned that the recent TV3 report (20th April 2008) on polycarbonate baby bottles will confuse and alarm consumers. During the TV clip many brands of hand held water bottles made of PET were shown. The inference being that they too are made of polycarbonate.
