The EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) Sector Group includes Plastics NZ member companies who manufacture and supply EPS products and polymers. The Group is affiliated with the Asian Manufacturers of Expanded Polystyrene (AMEPS) and has close ties with Expanded Polystyrene Australia (EPSA).  



EPS is an innovative, high performing material enhanced by its environmentally friendly characteristics. It was first produced in Germany in 1930. Through its proven versatility and market performance it has captured an ever growing range of applications particularly in the building, construction and packaging industries. Of the 8500 tonnes of EPS material manufactured in New Zealand each year, around 72% is used in building and construction products and the remaining 24% in packaging.

The Group aims to foster the development and growth of EPS markets in New Zealand. It undertakes specific initiatives in the following areas:

  • Promoting industry best practice in a professional and ethical manner
  • Advocacy and public policy development
  • Product standards development and compliance
  • Enhancing the environmental impact of EPS products throughout their life cycle
